I was talking to Nairne Elder at Sandown in about 1975. I hadn't seen him for a long time so I asked him where he had been. He said 'racing on the IOM'. Also said 'the first time I went there I did an 84 MPH lap but if you keep going there you get faster'. His nickname in the 60s was 'Speed' because in one race he went really fast and knocked down about four A graders as he passed them.
Sorry to see him go, however it comes to all of us, - the main thing is to try to stay alive as long as possible and enjoy life.
