I suggest that any racing machine over ten years old should be recognised as an historic bike, and catered for in historic racing. It wouldn't be difficult to broad band racing from period 5 onwards with log books concentrating on authenticity rather than eligibility, and race the bikes in capacity classes based on machine technology type. When historic racing began back in October 1973, the stated aim was 'to preserve the old racing bikes'. It has never really achieved that because of the lag between modern racing and historic. These days most of the 80s production racers have already disappeared, and as far as modern bikes are concerned there won't be true racers coming along. We are in danger of missing the boat, and saving the 80s and 90s racers.
