I have recently bought a motorcross sidecar and need some advice on a motor problem. The RHS cylinder pours out smoke when it is running and when it isn't, you can put your hand over the exhaust and get it covered in oil. The motor was reconditioned not long ago by the previous owner,ie. new pistons and rings, etc. what could it be?

I have pulled the motor down to find nothing obviously wrong. I have sent the heads off for a closer look by an expert. He believes the syptoms could easily be a worn seal and valve guide. I think this may be the case as there is not much else it could be. I'll find out for sure soon. Tony |

How did the inspection go Tony, have you solved the problem? |

It's all back together and it still blows smoke. I was definetly a bit hasty. I honed the bores and replaced the head with a reduction of smoke, but not elimination. It has to be the bore. I will run the outfit as is, in the next event and when I can, re-sleeve and use the new pistons and rings.I should have invested in a vernier before this hasty weekend.
