Hi all, Just wondering if anyone knows of any distributors locally in Australia that sell gaskets, piston rings and other gear for CB450's?
thanks, John.

John,
I think you will find that most bike shops will be able to source gasket kits for you. If they can't try Bert Kingston Spares in Brisbane. He usually keeps them in stock.
Pistons and rings are more difficult. You may find dealers with New Old Stock, like I did, but this was a fluke I think. I simply called all the dealers in my area and gave them a series of part numbers to check. I ended up with two sets of 1.00 o/s rings.
Have you tryed e-bay in the US. I know someone who recntly bought a piston kit for around $150 the pair AUD. If you still have no luck, Kawasaki z900 Pistons are very similar and can be fitted with a small amount of machining. It depends what you want.
Let me know If I can help out more,

Thanks for that. As for local bike shops, I've tried them and gotten some mild interest. One spare parts guy waffled on about redundant parts registers and the like but really wasn't quite as helpful as I'd hoped. I have a pair of brand new aftermarket s4 (1.00 over) pistons, rings, gudgeon pins and clips that I sourced over the net. The brand is MC which I have never heard of. The reason I'm still looking is that both barrels (I have two motors pulled apart and received both as such, but their top ends are real good. Would be a shame to go straight to the 4th oversize. One motor was apparently pulled down because there was big end noise, which I'm led to believe is one of the 450's two big failing points (cams being the other?). So my aim is to procure a set of standard rings, and gasket sets, and put the unkown motor (i.e. not the one with the big end noise) back together to try my luck.

Kavo, what's involved in using the kwacka 9 pistons? As 9 stuff is easier to get, and the piston rings are still used in a later model dirtbike so they are easy to get. Also is it beneficial or sacrificial in nature as far as performance is concerned?
Also anyone know where you can buy velocity stacks for the 450's? and for that matter any other custom parts and cafe racer parts. I know of capellini moto already. |

John,
The z900 pistons are a straight fit in the 450. |

On a website dealing with a road racing Honda 450 built by Todd Henning, they mention using Kawasaki GPz 1100 pistons. You could have a look at those.

Small tech glich there!!
My 450 makes alot of bottom end noise but has been running well for years and not having ever heard another one to compair it too I've put it down to being the nature of the beast. The crankshaft has alot of endfloat and I read somewhere that it can cause a knocking sound at idle.Being a 180 crank I gess this is possible. I've thought about pulling it down to have a look but from what I find in the filter at oil change I dont think I will find anything. If theres no bearing metal in the filter the your suspect crank maybe ok.
