Man killed in motorcycle race crash

A motorcyclist has been killed during a race at Winton, in Victoria's north-east.

Police say the 49-year-old man hit a barrier at the Winton Motor Raceway, just before 4:00pm this afternoon.

The St Kilda man was riding as part of an official race meet at the Winton Motor Raceway this afternoon when he lost traction and came off his bike.

The rider hit a tyre barrier and he died instantly.

Track conditions were wet and there was light rain at the time.

Friends of mine were in this race. The fellow came off at the end of the back straight in the Thunderbike race. It was the first Hartwell round for the year.

Very sad news.
I think that the date was set for a round of Hartwell MCC Championship.
