Victorian riders won all motorcycle events at the Gillman sidecar, solo, and TQ Championship last Saturday. The 300 metre circuit is situated at Gillman, north of Adelaide.
Matt Jones won the Solo Championship.
Dave Cotterell won the British Classic Championship on Peter Vipon's Vincent 1000
Ken Walker rode Dave Cotterell's Supercharged Vincent 1000, however unfortunately retired with magneto problems.
Dougy Cotterell won the Japanese Classic Sidecar Championship on the Kawasaki H2 750 sidecar, which was going 'like a blur', even though still running a bit rich.

First of all well done to all the winners.
Can you tell us a bit more about Historic Speedway please? I went to an historic speedway meeting at Murray Bridge early this year and was really disappointed that they did NOT actually race. There were some excellent machines there but all they did was went out and did a few demonstration laps. It got really quite boring after the third round. Subsequently I was interested to see your report just now that they actually had races at Gillman - even more so because I did not even know there was a meeting on!!

I believe several events are held at Broadford by the Sidecar Riders Association. They atually Do race at Murray Bridge, however I suggest how serious they are depends on the promoter, and whether they are simply putting on a demo.
I'll try to get info on future events.

Patrick, I've attended the speedway at Broadford, a couple of times. It would have to be one of the nicest parts of the facility. I believe the historic speedway sidecar guys have now got 5 original Vincent Speedway outfits (one supercharged) and several of the older riders to punt them around. Ken Walker, Dave Cotterell (not related to our family), and Jim Carter all rode at Laverton and Avalon over the years. (I believe Jim axctually rode at Traceys). The Vincents are a real weapon on the skids.
The solo guys on Jawas are also worth watching at Broadford.
Are there any plans to start promoting the skids as done in the old days?
