A suggestion came from a management meeting to add spice to the P4 unlimited by permitting Z900 and TZ 750 into field to give the Hondas a bit of curry. What are your thoughts and what are the posabilities?

Z900s and TZ750s are both post 1972 bikes and are not permitted to run alcohol in P5 races. Are you suggesting they should be allowed to run under P4 rules i.e. run alky? A TZ750 in the right hands will beat anything from the 70s, with alky it would become airborne! I suggest a better idea is to simply broadband races (for every capacity class)to include P4 and P5 (and possibly P6), but keep to the elgibilty rules as to fuel allowed. This means RD350s cannot run alcohol, R5s can - seems a fair way of handicapping to me. It also means Rex has some reason to continuing building his Hondas - they can run alcohol in combined P4,P5 races where Z900s and TZ750s must run petrol. Should make for some really interesting racing!! I'd love to see a really good TZ750 again, being used as intended!! |

I have recieved advise that this proposal has been investigated in the past. The real issue is that in the considered opinion of those involved, the inclusion of TZ750 and Z90o's would simply displace the hot hondas with hot kwakas and yammies and the real issue of enticing more machines into the P4 unlimited Solo races, would not work as some expect it would. So we need to think anout a different solution. |

John, Rex and his customers are a big problem for anyone (like myself), who ride 'genuine capacity' unlimited British machines. I don't think changing the rules to get them back to 750cc, is the answer. I've never seen Rex or Tony back away from real competition, and I seriously believe their bikes are 'good things'and worth racing. I don't think you'd 'simply replace them with TZ750s or Z900s'. What you might end up with, is some real excitement, and spectator appeal. Perhaps you should discuss this with Rex, Tony and Stuart Loly. Best Regards, |
