First off, this is probably not an ideal forum to ask that question, us lot tend to think of motorcycles as timeless and most are willing to modify, rebuild and invent things to keep them that way.
Here is my opinion based on my experience, it in no way expresses or implies a concensus of the membership of this forum.
you have posed a hell of a question to answer, the important thing is how often it has been serviced and had oil and filter changes, also what kind of usage (10 kilometres to and from work for a year puts more wear on a motor than 50 1000 kilometre weekend tours because the commuter is hardly ever running at optimum temperature and wear is accelerated by constant cold running), for a general guide an average modern 600 is high mileage at 75,000 and probably about to become expensive (worn out shocks, fork bushes, camchains and other bits and pieces)
1000's engines tend to last longer but the cycle parts still have to be considered from 75,000 kilometres and the engines have to be viewed with suspicion unless you can get a certified service history and competent analysis of it's condition.
Anything that has been heavily modified and/or raced is to be regarded as high mileage and any seller who continues to tell you how fast a bike is and can't show you reciepts for service items or workshop work, is to be treated with suspicion. |
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we may as well dance |
