i remember a few years ago a 250 rider was killed in a free practice day before a Hartwell club meeting. i think he highsided coming on to the start finnish straight and was run over by a 600cc rider who couldn't see him. i also remember the meeting was boycotted by most of the racers. Was anything ever done to ensure this wouldn't happen again? i'm not sure if the accident was just a matter of no flag marshals on that particular corner? |
There are those who do, those who used to do and those who never did.. why is this 3rd group always trying to convince everyone they know best? |

Nothing can be done to ensure nothing will happen again. We as racers are reminded to race to the conditions, I believe that is the riders resposibility to decide to race or not. Not withstanding a sudden dumping of oil , gravel or even a fallen machine or rider in the case you speak of. The tracks cannot be made so that 100% vision is available. As for lack of flaggies, they volunteer to help us race. Perhaps some riers could help when their bike is out to help boost the numbers. If racing was 100% safe where would we get out rocks off? I have seen people killed or I have injured blokes under racing conditions at tracks all over the place, Phillip Island, Winton, Adelaide, Bathurst, Wakefield, Sandown. If we boycotted each track where would we race. Personally I believe boycotts are done by those who are not prepared to help fix situations themselves but rely on others to do the work. Patently unsafe situations can be resolved without a boycott by either slowing down or discussions. |
