Not with standing the particular issue of WA and the NT. Comments on travelling allowances are being sought. I can say the HMRAV implemented a travel allowance of $30 for people traveling more than 500 km to get to the meeting about 3 years ago. The committee chose to withdraw it recently because even though we paid out about $360 or so, they felt it was not enough to tip the sacles with regard to coming to a meeting or not, and when about 8 HMRAV members went to Eastern Creek in August 2004, no allowance was offerred, so the HMRAV decided that since other clubs were not offerring it we should stop. How would a system work if it ever got off the ground again.

hi John,i think it's a good option for, not so much "nextdoor" interstaters, but as you stated NT & WA as an incentive to go the extra distance, from memory Qld also used a "distance travelled" to determine travel allowance, for me personally it wasn't a deciding factor in attending your vic meetings, but obviously still was appreciated,(traded against shed hire in my case),maybe allocated to competitors who travell across 2 states to attend?ie Sth oz to NSW,or vic to Qld,(ok for us in nsw,as we're in the middle?), |

John, I dont honestly believe that offering assistance on a one on one basis will work as the amount that can be sensibly be offered cannot be of any real significance. What we have achieved for the West Australians is a collective grant from MWA for our club and a large donation from club funds which is being put towards the cost of moving a container from WA to Winton. This has encouraged a larger contingent than normal to travel to this years championships and assuming everything works out will be done again for next year as transporting to Tasmania could be a difficult task. In relationship to other clubs offering the best deal we have ever received was from NSW a few years back and they offered a significant subsidy towards the cost of transporting to Eastern Creek for National event, cant remember the year, but at the time we couldnt generate enough interest to make it work. We have had assistance from the guys in the NT for transport to the Terra Challenge which did help a few of our guys to get up there. In the west we may be in a more difficult position than you lot from the mystical east and $ 50.00 towards the cost of travelling from SA to Vic for example may be of benefit but over here it wouldnt even get us to Kalgoorlie. To give you some idea the last time we drove to Mallalla we spent between four of us $1350.00 on the road so while any subsidy would always be appreciated it would need to be quite large to make the difference between travelling or not. Sorry about the rambling nature of this response.

Hi John, I remember getting the $30 subsidy once, might have been Winton, as was mentioned it wasn't a deciding factor in whether we attended or not but boy it was great P.R. (best part of a carton of beer), and I was very appreciative at the time. A subsidy would however be a considerable incentive where W.A. or N.T. were concerned. I also remember that in the old Shell Oils series we got a travelling allowance of I think $60 bucks per round (not sure of that) so long as we did all rounds. |
