Apart from joining a club, getting a licence etc the rest is my suggestion;
Attend a couple of meetings and talk with people.
Go to the wreckers and get your bike of choice, I suggest a CB350 Honda or maybe a 500. I would encourage you to keep away from the 1000 at the start.
Attend a few ride days, then interclub races if possible to learn to race with othrs around you.
Enter the Southern Classic.
