Dear Sir,
SINGLE EVENT LICENCES FOR HISTORIC RACING
I wish to suggest that the MA rules be changed, so that riders over 45 years of age can get single event licences at historic events.
I raced at the ‘Seniors Meeting’ at Mount Gambier, both this month and last year. At both events there has been opportunity to obtain a single event licence. This has meant that a large number of older riders, who don’t compete regularly, have come out of the woodwork.
Riders such as Steve Oszko made comments to the effect that if they can get a single event licence they will be at every historic meeting.
It seems to me that there would be a great increase in following of our sport, if older riders can be encouraged to return to competition. In my own case, I am retired but love racing. The $250 annual licence fee is prohibitive, when I only ride a maximum of three meetings per year.
At The Austin 7 Meeting at Winton last weekend, the turn-up was abysmal. I would have had a ride, however the cost wasn’t justified. The grids were about twenty bikes max (the circuit licence allows forty bikes).
We just can’t afford to let our sport ‘go down the tube’ this way.
Best Regards,
Alan Cotterell
