The HMRAV is trying to take advantage of the move to Broadford, the long weekend elsewhere and some good ideas thrown into the pot. Full details are on the You must be logged in to see this link. site, but I am not trying to ambush this site, its just that there are so many details. But if anybody has questions etc, please ack them here. New ideas, constructive critisism and more ideas or offers of help will be welcome. Essentially, we hope to have Southern Classic Festival with help from the Shire, MV and other disciplines so we creat a great environment for racing in the future. Please help us to crack it.

Well we have news for you. The HMRAV are close to engaging a group experienced at organising Rally's to assist with the running of the Southern Classic Rally. We hope to introduce a large number of spectators to Historic Racing by virtue of having a connection with a rally along the lines of what they are familiar with. We shall keep you posted, but dont forget Sidecar riders will get the best camp sites if they are in first! I have heard that Sidecar teams are honary members of the Flat Earth Society |

John, I think the running of the Southern Classic Rally in conjunction with the historic road races at Broadford is an excellent, progressive idea. I don't know what date you have in mind, but if you get the week after the Phillip Island GP, you might even capture some of the thousands of riders we see in Benalla each year, who are returning to NSW and Queensland. I hope you intend to advertise in the back of 'Just Bikes' and 'Motorcycle Trader'. Martin Hone might even place a free ad, if you ask nicely. You could probably also ask Ron Walker about advertising the event at the GP. - a very encouraging initiative! Best Regards. |

Thanks for the support Alan, sorry I did not vget much of a chance to talk at the meeting on Monday. The S/C will be on October 4/ 5 2003. Its very hard to get too close to the GP because their date moves from w/end to w/end its not consistant. We hope to capitalise on the Labour Day monday Holiday in Sa and NSW with our date. It would be great to be the following week , and perhaps if the long weekend stunt does not work we can try something else. We would never ask Martin Hone for a freebie but he has offerred a good deal. Please help with any local promotion points such as the local rag etc, even the shire info places names and addresses would be great. CYA |

The local rag is the Benalla Ensign at 3/55 Carrier Street, Benalla phone (03) 5762 4444 . They will print a news item for you however on the second asking you'll find they will want to charge you for an ad. Best Regards, |

The BSA and Norton clubs cannot take on the Rally. So the club itself will use help to manage it ourselves. |
