On the topic where is Historic racing going, there have been comments about re sizing of engines and whether it is kosker or not. I dont know but I thought the topic deserved its own heading. Does anybody know?

Hi All
I've considered re-sizing down from 650 to less then 526cc in the Post Classic Class for some time as a 650cc Period 4 has no chance againts 1100cc Plus $10,000 engines for each meeting is just a bit to much to take year in year out, I was under the impression that the 5% over what your bike was produced as 650cc plus 5% 750 plus 5% which would even up the fields, but whats happening now is 1300cc plus 5% it's who got the most money & bending the rules to boot if you complain about it there are 30 unlimited people come looking for you. I've heard the comments lately that the old Truimphs, Nortons, BSA's shouldn't be aloud in the unlimited Period 4 because they are dangerous to pass because they are going that much more slower & leak oil everywhere!! if thats the way they think !! it's no wonder if you don't have a overbored Honda & spend up to $10,000 a meeting that all the not so fast leaky old British bikes no longer go racing. STEVE CAN YOU START ANOTHER TOPIC IF THIS IS YOUR MAIN POINT. THIS TOPIC AS PURELY ABOUT RE SIZING DOWNWARDS, NOTHING ELSE MODERATOR
Getting back to going down to the 500 Class I asked a MA offical a few years ago & he said if I showed him as when putting it together they will measure it up & seal/wire with a MA approved stamp to stop the people complaining at the meetings etc etc etc but he said why?? they are bringing in the rule 5% over cases states!! that was about 5 years ago now, until they bring in this rule people will forget about racing until they change the rules to benifit all bikes not just the money blokes!!! IF SOMETHING WAS DISCUSSED 5 YEARS AGO AND ABANDONED IT WILL NOT COME UP AGAIN UNTIL A CLUB ASKS FOR IT TO BE CONSIDERED.MODERATOR
A good British bike 750cc would give it to a Honda 750cc bike anytime even the old Wogs bikes would give a good run for there money any day So how about it MA bring the rule & don't wait until it's to late. DONTV FORGET THE NEW 750CC RULE IT SHOIULD HELP ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SOMEWHAT MODERATOR

Why would you sleeve a Triumph 650 down to 500cc when you can buy a standard T100 which has 1mm shorter stroke than a 650? All you have to do is fit a one piece shaft to a T100 to get a really reliable bike.
Better way to go is to stroke a 650 motor to 63mm (as Allen Greening's bike) to get 500cc, trouble is the rod to stroke length is wrong, and makes it a pig to ride. There is then a need to fit 750 short rods, and very short barrels. The reason I gave up on it, was I would have to make the barrels. That's why Allen Greening got the bike back - he built it in the mid-fifties.
Even with the long rods the bike goes like stink, unfortunately TORQUE WINS RACES not horsepower.
A good 500 is a much better proposition to race than a 650 or 750 (particularly in Triumphs) as the bottom end often collapses in bigger motors.

I agree with the comment about Brit 750s being faster than Jap 750s. When 750 Commandos came out they were still a match for H2 Kawasakis, Honda 750s were soundly blown to the weeds. Trouble is that when you get a Norton going that quick, they don't last long. Plenty of the Combat 750s were repaired under warranty.
I'm frankly surprised how quick my 850 Commando goes. I expected it to be a slug. It's still no match for a 1040cc CB750.
I don't think any legitimate capacity bike in P4 is as quick as a SFC750 Laverda. Jim Eade's one beat Mick Hone and Alan Decker at Phillip Island in about 1973, both were on Z900s.
