The 2003 S/Classic is planned as a Festival of motorcycles for the whole week prior. The Shire is happy to assist with promotion, MV track manager is very helpful with regard to track ans surroundings matters. I am now asking for any people willing to put in some time to assist with the planning to contact me. The new event with all its attachments will be different to organise from the start and more hands on little tasks will all help. So I am asking if any of you can help im the following areas. - Static display of racing sidecars - Static display of featured bikes, to be determioned - Building a cover for the Band stand - Graphic design work on promotional items - Production of metal bages and or tee shirts - Addresses for promotion of the event. Please contact me here or call 03 9888 5297 to be part of perhaps a new concept of race meetings in Victoria.

just a small thought guys, while your'e in organising mode, will someone make sure there's adequate power available for the campers, was there a few years back for your state titles, the amount of power boards we setup off the shower block would have got into Guiness book of records!,pretty funny when a particular appliance threw the circuit breakers,a frustrating 1/2hr later we realized most of Broadford was blacked out,(wasn't our fault?),is the top pit bays electified yet?,promises promises?cheers Mick, ps will definately try and be there! |

Macho, I have sent your request on to the track manager Patrick for a response. Thanks for the tip. If you had a sidecar you could sleep underit and be nice and cosy |

For a start Allan, my comment referred to power not being available OVERNIGHT, so perhaps the interstaters may not be impoverished.
The track manager has also replied "There was a general power blackout at the time you speak of Macho,at whilst there was no power for some time there was none to be obtained anyway. BUT, the shower block was never intended to be a power station for campers, so it is suggested that your camping competitors either bring small portable generators in that area or maybe hire two or three with decent power boards for campers. " and in answer to your other question The top pit shed has power [and a new concrete floor] the two lower sheds have power and floors! Lights and plugs are on mains but we have to use the Rolls Royce generator when everyone hooks up their tyre electric blankets within the pit sheds because the grid is not big enough within the Racing complex.
As Secretary I have followed this question up with others and can report - The power coming from the mains but was never designed to operate as a camp site. - People have managed to camp for centuries without electricity - Within Victoria, camping is not common at the circuit so I feel the opportunity is an improvement on the past. - Power for battery chargers will be available during the day - we shall not be hiring generators for campers
I hope this clears up the matter |

John,
I got the following today via e-mail from Patrick Fletcher:
quote: Originally e-mailed by Patrick Fletcher
My response to the email from Mick via your goodself re power for campers at the Southern Classic I considered to be positive somehow it has been bluntly turned into a very negative statement which is untrue. Riders use the paddock area to camp just about every meeting or practice day - they use the pit sheds to work on their bikes late into the night - the showers are on and the toilets are lit - power is always available 24/7 for normal activities at Broadford Road Circuit - for tyre warmers we have to generate [three phase has just arrived our side of the Hume] In my reply to you this morning I suggest that hire generators be considered for campers who need to work outside the Pit Sheds on into the night not " the lights go out at night."
Regards
Patrick

I think we have all got off the topic, but I think I can clarify the situation with regard to power. Mains power is available 24hrs in the pit sheds for normal activities, but excluding tyre warmers and big users of electricity. Power is not generally made available to all campers in the pit paddock at evenings as a matter of course, but can be available in a limited way providing the tent heaters, radiators, electic kettles etc are not large in capacity or numbers. |

geez you sorted that out quick!,was only a gentle dig about the newest top pit bays,we(the happy campers)were quite o/k with the limited power available from shower block, like i said there was a lot of power boards running off each other, funny to watch every one checking when a cicuit breaker tripped,on the subject of camping out at race meetings,i think it generates a lot of goodwill, most times you don't get to interact/catchup with interstaters coz your'e too busy racing/packing up to go,(also winton is the only track on the east coast that dosn't allow camping overnite!)Bathurst had generators supplied, big noisy bloody things, but i think they had a curfew,i don't remember much after midnite anyway!,cheers for now,Mick |

Macho I have to admit it took an hour or so to sort out the issue and I did mention to Patrick that fact. But at the end of the day it has been sorted and now I realise you did not want 100 amps made available life will be a bit easier. CYA |
