I am currently living in Jakarta, Indonesia and I would like to import my 60's model vespa. Does anyone know of the ease/expense of importing my bike back to Australia?

John,

not sure if you got an answer to this, but I have found this site that may help you with Vespa's in Australia:

You must be logged in to see this link.

They maybe able to help with all your questions, and are only a new club.

Contact the Federal Office of Road Safety (FORS) in Canberra.

They will send you an application kit to import a vehicle into Australia. Everything you need to know is in the kit but generally you don't need any formal ADR approvals to import a vehicle over 15 years old, BUT you still need to apply otherwise you won't get it through Customs.

Your costs will be for the actual shipping and the Customs duty (based on the formula - Purchase price less depreciation for avery year you've owned the Vespa.) If that comes out to an unrealistic figure, they will estimate market value.

I've dealt with FORS a few times and they're very efficient. Good Luck!
