Dear Blokes,
Well, I suppose it had to happen! I got up at 5am to go to Kiama Downs, about 30kms away, to visit a friend who gets up early and doesn't mind me calling in. But I stayed too long at her house and by 8.45 the Saturday morning traffic was bumper to bumper. I was a little bit nervous of the traffic and was relieved when I got to the industrial road that leads to my place and doesn't have much traffic on it. I decided to try going into my street via a corner that had bothered me a bit in the past and I had never entered the street from there before. The corner is a sharp left-hander, uphill, with the wrong camber. No traffic was in sight so I thought I'd just take a wide line around the corner and I'd be fine. But suddenly a 4WD complete with bull bar towing a trailer full of tree-loppings came flying over the hill at around double the speed limit. I decided since I was going to end up on his side of the road I had better get the bike upright and do an emergency stop. As I tried to do that the bike went over and I flew through the air. I can still feel that sensation of flying and I kind of felt like Superman, but wished I would never reach the ground. You know how these things seem to happen in slow motion. Well, I did hit the ground right in front of the 4WD which managed to stop on time. I got up right away, dusted myself off, nothing broken, I hadn't hit my head, my $680 leather jacket was unscathed. No gravel rash. The bloke in the car was pretty upset and another fellow who saw it happen also stopped. They picked up the bike and parked it on the side of the road for me. I assured them I was OK and would ride it home which was only a short distance. I had a look at the bike. Right mirror gone, some damage to the right side, the brake pedal is out of place, the handlebars looked crooked. I rode it home, parked it in the garage, came inside and had a lie down. Now I've rested for an hour, I find my right knee is quite sore, and my right foot is swelling a bit. Other than that I'm fine. But I'd like a bit of sympathy and a cup of tea.

Louise, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Now that you are stronger, would you like to swing for me on a classic motocross sidecar for the 2004 season.
