A while back I noticed a comment that some people seemed to believe we should maintain a concerted interet in Historic Racing as a whole, and that forming little 'splinter' groups is counterproductive.
I partly agree with this however I can also see value in groups such as the Post Classic Association.
Some of the things which discourage people from taking part in our sport involve competitiveness. I suggest the one thing that will bring riders out of the woodwork is the opportunity 'to have a good go' against fairly equal opposition. Events such as the 'pushrod class', 'junior sidecar', '500cc four stroke singles (supermono)', 'Forgotten Era two strokes' really need groups of enthusiasts behind them, getting money for trophies, and helping to develop machines and even the racing formula.
I don't think we have many such 'Special Interest Groups' in our sport. The exceptions are the Sidecar Riders Association, the Post Classic Association and the guys who ride the Harley Sportsters, however I don't think many of these groups are well organised or have their own web sites.
I'd like to suggest this forum have a look at the situation regarding Special Interest Groups, and perhaps we should discuss them a bit more fully.

In the car racing world there are a number of associations dedicated to promoting single areas of interest. Formula Ford is very successful, and the racing is extremely close due to the control of eligibilty by the group. Same goes for Sports Sedans, HQs and Formula Vee. Even in the Historic Car Racing there are Special Interest Groups.
I suggest a similar approach in Motorcycle Racing (including Historics) can only help us improve the sport.
We've had the same thing in modern road racing to some extent, with the Harley Sportster and Supermono races. The only group which seems to have survived is the VFR400/Aprilia 250 Class, and that gives some of the best spectator value ever!
The 'rule' at Winton is that if you can bring 12 entrants of one type to a meeting, you can have your own event! Worth thinking about? How about 12 Vincents, or 12 Junior Sidecars? Or 12 500cc Four Stroke singles - surely we can achieve that?

It only gets worse as you get older. When I first separated from my ex at age 57, I was approached by 21 year old ladies on a couple of occasions. I made the decision I didn't really want to get out of bed for the 4 o'clock feeds, so I didn't go there. (Perhaps i'm gay?)
But really, seems there is no such thing as rejection!
