Sad News,

It has been reported that Bob Martin died on Sunday 6 March evening.

The funeral will be held at Lilydale Memorial Park on Friday 12th March at 3.00pm.

A good man, who will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Bob passing away. A few years ago he told me about his 'fatal' accident at Bathurst, when he was clinically dead on the circuit after crashing his sidecar, and was revived. I reckon he got a good reprieve - must be twenty years.
A nice guy who will be sadly missed.

He was a long term sufferrer of which motor neurone disease normally takes you out after about 3-5 years. Bob mentioned to me recently that he thought it was the VB that kept him going, rather than all the medication etc he received from the quacks. He has been very active until the last short time when he went to hospital because he was loosing weight, but Ashley mentioned a couple of weeks ago, that they thought he was on the mend and was getting ready for the long haul again, but that was not the case. I raced against him in the early 70's and his Suzuki 750 was a machine that required chasing, not passing in our case.

I am very sorry to hear the news. May Bob meet "Father" (Stan) and talk about Bridgestone GT350R's for many hours in his new home.

Very sad to hear the news of Bob's passing. Even after a great competitive career he kept contributing to help many many competitors. How many riders who had come to grief at meetings were picked up by Bob's ute and trailer?
RIP Bob.

John, Bob once told me that he had motor neurone disease. Is that the same as MS? And do you think his illness came from the incident at Bathurst? Any doctors on this forum? My condolences to Ashley, Steve and the rest of his family. I don't know who'll pick up my bike now, when it gives up.

You are correct Alan I got all the syndromes mudled up, it must come from flying too low and colidding with insects. The incident was the one at the big track. Ya gotta get on the bike first to fall off it Al.

Anyone who rides at Bathurst is a braver man than I am. I know my limitations and my propensity for falling off at speed. Bathurst is not the place to crash. Bob must have had a big one there!

I remember Bob as the kind hearted bloke that drove the ute around Broadford to pick up the breakdowns. It was my first year racing and I didn't even know he straightened sidecar frames. Mine was bent bad from a prang with a man who loved bedford vans and Cougar,"Pudd". Bob took me aside and told me to bite the bullett, pay the price, and he would straigten it up to race better than ever. I got it back just in time for the nationals and came 4th. The first 3 were 1150cc and I was 840cc.
I Believe I wouldn't be racing today if it wasn't for this man.
That year in the Post classic sidecars the order was The Herberts, the Turners, and The Hoopers. In case you never heard, Tony and Paul Powell came 4th.

Tony

P.S.
lets keep bobs spirit from moving on till after April 3rd.
