When I became involved in club administration, the cry was " we dont have enough meetings for our licence costs". Now, we have an expanded calendar I am hearing me may have too many, with 3 - 2 day race mattings, 3 track days and 2 sprints with the possability of an additional Sprint at Broadford. So can you give me feedback please, have we got it right?

Licence costs are a deterrent, they keep me away from meetings, however when the licences were $180 per year I could only afford to race a couple of times a year. I found it still cost about $500 per meeting, including costs of minor repairs. This was not too bad. I don't think I'd want to run at more than three meetings a year (2 day). But as a spectator, I can't get enough. I want to take a lot more photos, and I really enjoy the new ideas - BEARS and forgotten era two strokes - I love 'em. I think they've got great potential to draw big crowds. At the moment I have a problem - I don't have enough dough, I don't want to work at things I don't enjoy, and I really want to race again! |

My wife and I got the Tassie MA licence which gave us $200 more to spend on the sport(I honestly believe MA does nothing for classic motocross sidecars). You just have to look at their newsletter to see this. Tony.

I appreciate the licence issue but can I get specific info about the number of race / sprint meetings. |

G'day John, there can be too many, but your main ones are Southern classic/state titles, but for your own state riders i think you need to keep the interest levels up?,i guess like Alan says it's expensive to race, but thats the way it is,(just remember the fun factor),it's a bummer when meetings are too close, you can't spread the budget load?,i like to attend interstate as much as i can afford, interacting with different riders is good for the sport in general(historically speaking of course?),Oran Park Autumn classic was wet, approx 80 entries, break even?,don't think so!,a few interstaters, was good to see!,it's a hard call, i think concentrating on a couple of "big " events over a weekend with festival type side attractions like the swaps/rallie events is the way to go,trying to fitt in with neighbouring states,we also need the spectator levels to keep interests at a popular height, it reflects a healthy image which we all should endevour to promote, which sadly isn't often the case with some smaller clubmeetings that try to stand alone,(unless they have a healthy bank balance that can prop up a "club"day),my 2 bobs, cheers Mick |
