Time is running out for McAdam Park Barrabool!
The home of Sporting Motorcycle Club for 43 years could be gone by Christmas!
As yet the club has not raised near enough funds to be in a position to bid for the McAdam Park venue, and club members desperately need the Australian public & Motorcycle fans to donate to the SMCC “BIG PICTURE” Wall.
Response from the motorcycling public to save Barrabool’s McAdam Park has not been up to expectations, but Sporting Motorcycle Club Vice President, Peter Ovens believes this could be because of a lack of information. “I think the public have not yet realised just how urgent the situation is! The fact is McAdam Park could be closed in a matter of weeks. That means sold, shutdown, bulldozed . . . . gone forever! Our situation is complicated, but the answer is very simple, we need cash and we need it yesterday!”
The first of 3 blocks of land forming the McAdam Park Estate will be on the market in just 3 weeks. The club needs to be in a position where they have enough funds behind them to be able to “do business”.
The sale date is a moving target and that means the club needs to be ready to go at any time! The only definite is the earlier people chip in, the more chance there is of saving the track!
The Club has made a revision to the terms and conditions on the “BIG PICTURE” Wall;
Due to public demand, and concern re "what happens to my money?”, now ALL tile donations of $100 and over to the Saving Barrabool Fund will be *available for refund, if the SMCC fails in it’s efforts to secure McAdam Park!
Previously the terms stated that only donors giving over $1000 dollars would be eligible.
Of course, the Club is hopeful they will not have to be in the position to have to give monies back for obvious reasons!
People can help by simply going to the Club’s website, and donating to a tile on the “BIG PICTURE” Wall. The Wall will be a huge monument to all the people who helped save Barrabool, with individuals names on each tile. Companies who sponsor tiles can upload logos and links to get great advertising benefits.
Ovens added, “Unfortunately it seems people are waiting, expecting the money will come from somewhere else! We are making inroads via other avenues such as Local Government, private investors, Motorcycling Australia and Motorcycling Victoria, and the industry, and they are all looking promising, but all that takes time. Time we don’t have! Even if we get some funding such as interest free loans, we would still have to pay it back! It’s very simple! If we had enough cash to give us buying power, we could do a deal tomorrow!
Fans and future fans need to know we have a very special situation here. McAdam Park is a very special place, and we are dealing with a very special family who want us to continue on! The club is fortunate to have the backing from the Surf Coast Shire but we need you, the public, to make this happen.
In conclusion Ovens stated, ”All other roads to acquiring McAdam Park Barrabool are open, a lot of hard work has already paved the road for the last section, a BRIDGE! That BRIDGE is MONEY! We can see it all on the other side, a motorcycle park heaven, waiting for us to have forever! We need the people to help us build that bridge! Just imagine the possibilities if we owned all that land; An international MX track, a full on junior track, a track for Quads and Vintage MX, Moto Trials, Cross Country loops. I know I can!”
* Refunds will be available when all hope of acquiring McAdam Park is gone. This may mean if the land is sold to another party who has the intention of selling back to the club, then the money will be kept for that. All monies to be kept in trust in the 'Saving Barrabool Fund' for land purchase. Requested refunds will be less 10% admin costs. All monies remaining after refunds will be kept for future alternate land purchase. (for full details see website)
You can help save Barrabool, by getting your name on a tile on the “BIG PICTURE” Wall. Visit the club website at You must be logged in to see this link.
