Keith, Winton is still waiting to hear from MA, whether it is accepted as promoter for the 2004 Historic Championships. I believe there may be a couple of contenders to run the meeting. |

I rang earlier and a decsion has not been made yet. I can say the HMRAV wants to amalgamate the Titles and the Southern Classic to get a large meeting with a big crowd at the festival atmoshere we managed to get last year. Other lobby groups obviously have their own tricks. |

Thank you for the application from your club to run the 2004 Championships. The Board of MA have discussed this meeting, and have decided to allow the Benalla Auto Club to conduct the event.

What date is proposed for the Aussie Titles. With comments on previous topics encouraging race meetings at Winton around the Aust.GP date from Alan Cotteral, the long silience suggests a time early in October which is the time the HMRAV has set for the Southern Classic for years. Are we going to have a clash of dates ? It would be unfortunate if a situation is created deliberately to stuff up the Southern Classic. Because normally dates of meetings are made public early. |

Come on Al, you were bursting to tell us something weeks ago, now we want info have you gone to ground. You're not holding back because of information that may dismay some of us perhaps? MA normally require the dates to be public 18 months prior to the event so why the secretcy? |

Obviously not true for all....quote: Originally posted by john

As you stated in the topic of: You must be logged in to see this link.
You have just asked MV to clear the week-end of 2/3 October 2004 for that event and that is only some 10 and a bit months away. This would also need MA approval.
I am not defending anyone here, but you need to play on a level field as well there John. If you do not need to notify them, then why should Al need to notify them with-in the 18 months? |

David, the 18 months notice is for the Aussie Titles only. I was not clear enough when I was taking earlier, possibly because I knew what I meant and did not re read it with a different mind set. Thanks anyway |

I am happy that Vic gets another go @ the titles and expect that we can provide a meeting that at the least equals W.A's effort this year which was spot on.Good sponsor in Honda with Redman in attendance, free tyre changing for every competitor, engineering expertise available,Methanol available,etc.etc.The most significant aspect from a riders view was the outrageous enthusiasm by the marshalls which made every ride more enjoyable no matter where you finished. So to all you closet racers you now have a whole 11 months to get "it" pieced together and make this a spectacle not to be missed.Talk to everyone you see and do your bit in promoting and let's all get a huge crowd out to see the action first hand not just through verbal reiteration after the races are run and won......as LLEYTON would say C-MON!!!!!!!!!! |

John, I'm really glad Winton (Benalla Auto Club) has got the Championships. I'm certain noone at Winton would ever go out of their way to st*ff up another promoter's historic event (including the Southern Classic), there's simply too much at stake for that! The Australian Historic Motorfest (car meeting)was held at Winton on 4th & 5th of October (2nd time) and it was a resounding success. We're learning all the time, and I believe the 2004 Championships will really please yourself and all the guys. Winton/BAC/WMC have five people working full time getting events organised and arranging publicity, so the Championships should be really good. Best Regards, |

Dear Al of the 5 full timers how many and or who are the ones going to be concentrating on "our" race meeting? As per my comments about the positives of W.A are such people going to be available for communication for people such as me to submit my 2bob's worth without stepping on any toes? |

Keith, thanks for your question. Generally running a meeting is a team effort at Winton. Adam Ronke is the publicity person, always looking for sponsors. Heather and Kate usually take care of entries, as does Matthew Ronke (also does surveys, and looks after programmes), Mick is the boss, and he is the one to talk to about the big things. Matthew is a good contact, so are Heather and Adam, Kate does a lot of the legwork, looks after databases etc. I might be employed on the events later next year, myself - don't know yet. If you ring up, Kate will point you in the right direction. If you want to do something really constructive, start at the top. If I'm involved, I'll probably spend a lot of time simply ringing up riders, clubs, and generally promoting the meeting - that's partly what I did for the Australian Historic Motorfest. I won't forget you! |
