It went well. Beautiful one day, lousy the next. 105 entries, up about 30. Sidecars were fantastic. The racing overall involved the ususl suspects winning, but a few new comeres, Scot Webster on a P5 showed them how to ride in the wet. The different rules permitted him to have wets on, on Sunday. We had Maurie Quincey as a special guest and Ginger Malloy and Bruce Verdun from NZ as imports. Overall the vibes were good. We do need to get Historic Winton on the NSW calendars because it is a fun meeting. Yes there are cars there but if a meeting lasts 28 years, something must be good. |
John Daley Sidecar #68 ' there are those who do, those who dont do and those who undo. We must lampoon the latter." |

John Maher got both legs run over by Russell Craddock after crashing on oil from previous Sidecar race where said didnt tell marshalls his sump plug fell out leaving a large slick round all the way and back into pits!!! Bit of a shame Russell went down also both unhurt but John was obviously sore. Micheal Panayi' trick looking "canary yellow" 750 Norton went very well with son Chris behind the bars for the first time on sat taking two 3rd's. Sun brought the cold and wet bringing Sat unlim post cl. winner Mick Neason undone chasing a very fast Rex in the first race at the flip flop coming onto the start straight ending his weekend with hand and back soreness. Gavin Smith and co showed some speed on the new outfit and the highest third wheel at the L hander coming onto the start straight in second posi before heading for the "concrete bunker" flaggie point bottom of straight before looping it.Phew a few anxious seconds there. Trease' Harley was on and off all w/e. Wet master from Sth.Africa Frank Howard was unstoppable in the Bill Luke this year .....(wish my arm was working) Chris Large put the plug back in and cleared out in dominant fashion on the stunning Triumph outfit in the wet and beat moderns p/classic , very good ride. Bryce Davies new Vincent outfit ran well with the rear spinning all the way up the hill in the wet to get a podium in the last race. Tyre warmers made it into use on Sunday with Guest riding Ken's Vincent hard off the line in the wet only to be holeshotted by Michael Panayi on the "canary" bike but had the front taken out at turn two leaving the Vincent out front! The Lucas Handicapp still needs tweaking with the field still very spread out at the finish. The Berry Manx is much more 2nd hand after a 2nd turn excursion with Clive Harrop on the Ariel (going well)with L/H brake plate and scoop removed by contact with ground. Thats all for now but o/all there was a good turnout anf racing by all. It is also great seeing Mini's dicing with Mustangs etc in the wet...

Keith, talking about minis and mustangs, how would you rate the 'historic value' of the bikes when compared with the cars? |
Is your machine authentic or merely eligible? |
