Hi,

I am an Australian living in Beijing and have a Chang Jiang CJ750 sidecar.(style based on BMW R71 750)

I want to bring it back to Australia with me but am unsure of laws and regulations for doing this. Apart from the laws to ship it into the country, will I be allowed to register it for the road, do I need to change the emissions levels, do I need to modify it if I want to carry passengers etc...

Does anyone have experience in doing this? Or can anyone point me in the right direction/authorities to ask for information?

Thanks in advance,
Amy

Amy,
I suggest that you just get it over here, the worst you can do is, just race it and find valuable friends in the process.

I brought my bike accross from NZ about 10 years back. Back then you could do it if you had owned the vehicle overseas for 12 months. You had to apply to a Government department in Canbera somewhere for a permit. Once the vehicle is in the country it needs an engineers report to get Australian compliance. For a motorcycle this was no big deal.

I suggest you have a browse through some of the governmet web pages as there is sure to be some info there.

Cheers
Mike

Im sure someone in the H.M.R.A.V will help you sort the thing for what you want to do with it.(Put it on the track!!!).
Come along to the race mettings and ask. They are a good bunch of people and may even help ya for the price of a slab.
No harm in asking!!!
